Polyphony Più

A Rhythmic Counterpart to Polyphony Più

A stylized brown‑and‑yellow illustration of a primate with its mouth open, set against a textured yellow background. Red cursive text at the top reads “Polyphony Più,” and matching text at the bottom reads “A Rhythmic Counterpart to Polyphony Più.”

the way to create art is to burn and destroy

ordinary concepts and to substitute them

with new truths that run down from the top of the head

and out of the heart

Charles Bukowski, (2009). sifting through the madness for the word, the line, the way: New Poems”, p.91,Zondervan

A Rhythmic Counterpart to Polyphony Più serves as the energetic counterpart to An Ambient Companion to Polyphony Più, drawing from the same decade‑spanning archive but emphasizing the project’s more rhythmic, structured, and charged material. Where the ambient collection dissolves into drift and atmosphere, this companion leans into motion —patterns that tighten, motifs that repeat, and textures that carry a sharper edge.

The selections revisit material from Oscillating Illuminations, At Intervals of Somnolence & Reverberation, A Musical Analysis of the Four Seasons in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Pons Asinorum single. The collection gathers eleven works from across Polyphony Più’s first decade, presenting them in newly combined, reinterpreted, or extended forms which were drawn from releases that span the years 2016–2025.

The track, “I’ve Existed Before (Eclectic Mix)”, reinterprets the 2025 single “i’ve existed on your timeline (before)”,treating it as a point of return rather than origin. From the 2021 LP IV, the two‑part “I, Circumvent You” appears here in its continuous form, first introduced on the Om Pharaoh Records compilation Periods III, where both halves were united into a single uninterrupted movement.

A major consolidation appears in “Through Sound Molecules in Chefchaouen Orchards, Maranasati and Field Diaries,” which merges the tracks which occupy the last half of the 2018 Surround Fundamental Shifts and Exhibitions Lp: “Memento Mori (Tadhkirat al‑Mawt / Maranasati),” “Grown in Chefchaouen Orchards and Gardens,” “Livingstone, Field Diaries,” and “Sculpturing Sound Molecules and Creating Vibes.” In this form, the track becomes a long, drifting study in memory, ritual, and process—an extended meditation shaped from the original album’s final arc.

Two additional selections from Surround Fundamental Shifts and Exhibitions appear here as well. “A Strong Experience of Anthropomorphic Colts,” inspired by the surreal, myth‑bending fiction of R. A. Lafferty, carries forward his fascination with the absurd, the allegorical, and the strangely human qualities of non‑human forms. “Hypatia of Alexandria” revisits the Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician whose life and death have long symbolized the collision between knowledge, power, and historical erasure. In the context of this compilation, the track stands as homage to her intellectual clarity and the fragility of inquiry in turbulent times.

Across its sequence, the album moves through reinterpretation, consolidation, and rediscovery—an alternate reading of Polyphony Più’s evolving soundworld. Rather than presenting as a simple companion, it offers a new constellation assembled from familiar materials, revealing how the project’s multiplicity continues to shift when viewed from a different angle.

Together, they reveal a different facet of Polyphony Più’s multiplicity: the moments where layered ideas converge into something more forceful, rhythmic, or insistent.

As a pair, the two albums form a mirrored set — one dissolving, one gathering; one drifting outward, one moving with intention. This companion stands as the more kinetic half of the release, highlighting the projects restless, and shape‑shifting energy within the broader Om Pharaoh Records mythos.
